Call for applications: (CR)2 Postdoctoral Fellow (Air pollution and science-policy interface)

The Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR)2 is a center of excellence created in 2013 with funding from the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT). (CR)2 is the point of convergence of researchers across disciplines jointly addressing the understanding of the Earth System in a changing climate and contribute to the evaluation and design of mitigation and adaptation measures in order to strengthen climate resilience in Chile.

(CR)2 is involved in an interdisciplinary air pollution research project seeking to assess the main drivers, impacts, responses and trends of air pollution under climate change and variability in central and south-central Chile. As part of this project, (CR)2 is looking for a Postdoctoral fellow with experience in inter-disciplinary research, public policy analysis, and using a systemic approach. The selected candidate will lead new research in the science-policy interface, specifically the successful candidate will participate, among other things, in: i) documenting the institutional conditions, at the national level, to deal with air pollution; ii) identify barriers for the implementation of measures at the national level using integrated case analysis; iii) conduct comparative analysis and consolidate the case studies. The chosen candidate is expected to lead the writing of articles on these topics and present results at national and international conferences.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Social Sciences, preferably Sociology or Anthropology and demonstrate its research capacity and team work ability. Ideally, the candidate should also have language proficiency in the main scientific languages (English, German, French, and Spanish). Candidates with experience in the analysis of social, political and environmental issues from an interdisciplinary framework as well as those familiar with complex systemic approaches will be favored. If not a Spanish speaker, learning the language while working at (CR)2 is recommended.

The position will be held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de Chile, in Santiago, but the successful candidate is expected to closely collaborate with CR2 researchers at Valdivia. The duration of the position is a maximum of 24 month.

The starting salary will be approximately 2900 USD per month, i.e., ca. 3 to 4 times the median monthly income in Chile. Interested applicants should send their CV, two letters of recommendation and a letter of motivation, by Wednesday 31th October 2018, 23 hours Santiago local time. We expect to communicate the decision by end of September 2018 and the selected candidate is expected to start as soon as possible but not later than January 2019.
