The Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR)2 (http://www.cr2.cl/) is a center of excellence created in 2013 with funding from the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT). (CR)2 is the point of convergence of researchers across disciplines jointly addressing the understanding of the Earth System in a changing climate and contribute to the evaluation and design of mitigation and adaptation measures in order to strengthen climate resilience in Chile.
(CR)2 is involved in an interdisciplinary fire project seeking to assess the main drivers, impacts, responses and trends of fire regimes under climate change and variability in central and south-central Chile. As part of this project, (CR)2 is looking for a Postdoctoral fellow with interest in inter-disciplinary work. The selected candidate will lead new research in at least one of the following topics: i) Interaction between burned landscape attributes and fire; ii) Fire risk in the rural-urban interface (RUI); and iii) model future fire regimes and fire hazard under climate and LULCC scenarios. All the above using spatial statistics and spatially-explicit models. The chosen candidate is expected to lead the writing of articles on these topics and present results at international conferences.
Assessment criteria: In the appointment process, special attention will be given to candidates with a PhD degree in Earth Science (e.g., Geography, Geosciences, Natural Resources). Previous experience in modelling and strong analytical skills to work with large and multiple datasets is vital, as well as experience with computer programming (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) and GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS). A proven ability to work in a team, network with a range of scientists, experience of publishing in top-level journals is also important. Fluency in English is required.
Terms of employment: The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years.

The salary will be 1,750,000 Chilean pesos (approximately 2900 USD per month).
