CR2 Projects<\/h2>\n

To contribute to the country’s and Latin America’s transition towards low-carbon development, the Center for Climate and Resilience Science CR2 implements various initiatives in collaboration with other scientific institutions, as well as with public and private actors and international cooperation organizations, to build a more climate-resilient society.<\/p>\n

The project aims to acquire and use a high-resolution mass spectrometer with interchangeable chemical ionization reactors for real-time measurements of organic and inorganic trace compounds in the gas phase and in particulate matter.<\/p>\n

The system, designed to be transportable, will facilitate the study of atmospheric chemical processes of socio-environmental and climatic relevance in tri-continental Chile, which require high temporal resolution and the ability to resolve atmospheric trace species present at levels as low as parts per trillion.<\/p>\n

Within the ARA Knowledge Catalyst Grants project, CR2 will serve as a regional hub for the co-production, synthesis, and dissemination of climate adaptation knowledge in Latin America, leveraging its experience collaborating with regional and global networks\u2014including the IPCC, ARA, IPAM, INBOA, and the IAI\u2014to bridge science, policy, and practice. Through mentoring programmes, writing workshops, and collaborative publications, the initiative aims to strengthen research and communication capacities, amplify Latin American voices, and support the meaningful participation of early-career researchers in the IPCC AR7 process, fostering inclusive and sustainable networks that connect disciplines, stakeholders, territories, and generations, with a view to extending beyond this cycle into future science\u2013policy interface efforts.<\/p>\n

The project seeks to review and analyse comparative regulations on dialogue with communities linked to energy projects and their participation in the economic benefits generated, in order to identify mechanisms that could be incorporated into the national electricity framework. The purpose is to support the country\u2019s decarbonization process while simultaneously promoting local development and community well-being, beyond the traditional compensation schemes established in environmental regulations and taking into account the economic impacts of these reforms.<\/p>\n

Strengthening Capacities and Civic Participation for Climate-Resilient Communities in Chile

This includes strengthening local capacities to understand climate and disaster risks in their territories, conducting representative assessments, and developing sustainable strategies to reduce climate and disaster risks while enhancing community resilience.<\/p>\n

The Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR2) in partnership with the National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP) and Columbia Climate School, will support the implementation of this project.<\/p>\n
