Ecosistemas y resiliencia

El Grupo de Trabajo Ecosistemas y Resiliencia (ECORES) investiga los impactos del cambio global sobre los socioecosistemas, con especial énfasis en evaluar su tolerancia y los procesos de recuperación y resiliencia. Su trabajo tiene como objetivo comprender cómo el cambio climático y los eventos extremos, particularmente sequías, olas de calor e incendios forestales, afectan el funcionamiento de los ecosistemas y de los sistemas socioecológicos, integrando dimensiones ecológicas, sociales, económicas y de gobernanza. En este contexto, ECORES contribuye a fortalecer la base científica que sustenta la toma de decisiones en materias de cambios de uso de suelo y gestión del agua.

El grupo profundiza en el estudio de la resiliencia de ecosistemas clave, especialmente bosques nativos, analizando su rol en la provisión de agua, la captura y almacenamiento de carbono, así como las emisiones asociadas a cambios de uso de suelo e incendios forestales. Este trabajo se complementa con el análisis de la resiliencia social y de las interacciones entre incendios y comunidades, con especial atención a la interfaz urbano-rural.

Para lograr sus objetivos, ECORES integra monitoreo de largo plazo y mediciones de terreno, sensores remotos, modelación avanzada y análisis socioeconómicos. A partir de estos análisis, el grupo aporta evidencia para el diseño de estrategias de conservación, restauración y gestión adaptativa. Asimismo, desarrolla productos geoespaciales y plataformas de datos que fortalecen la gobernanza climática y ambiental, en estrecha colaboración con instituciones públicas y socios nacionales e internacionales.
