Sistemas urbanos resilientes

El Grupo de Trabajo Sistemas Urbanos Resilientes (SUR) estudia cómo las ciudades cambian bajo la presión combinada del cambio climático y las actividades humanas. Su trabajo se centra en fenómenos urbanos emergentes como la contaminación, los riesgos climáticos, los eventos extremos y las desigualdades socioambientales, abordando las ciudades como sistemas socioecológicos complejos.

Desde una perspectiva interdisciplinaria y sistémica, SUR investiga procesos de adaptación y mitigación climática, gobernanza urbana, evaluación de riesgos y huellas ambientales, con el objetivo de fortalecer la resiliencia de las ciudades en Chile y Sudamérica y generar evidencia científica que contribuya al diseño de políticas públicas y estrategias urbanas informadas por la ciencia.

El grupo pone especial atención en las interacciones entre clima urbano, calidad del aire, diseño y metabolismo de las ciudades, y condiciones socioeconómicas, integrando de forma transversal principios de justicia climática y equidad territorial, particularmente en relación con sus efectos sobre la salud y el bienestar de la población.

Además, SUR desarrolla métricas, modelos y plataformas de datos para evaluar riesgos climáticos urbanos, monitorear acciones de adaptación y apoyar la toma de decisiones. Estos enfoques consideran efectos compuestos y en cascada, con el fin de anticipar riesgos emergentes y orientar transiciones urbanas más justas y resilientes al clima.
